NaNoWriMo ms done… now what?

My personal NaNoWriMo has come and gone. My manuscript is finished and with it I entered a contest in which I received SEVEN requests for either full ms, first three chapters or first 50 pages. I was floating on cloud 9 for quite a while – let me tell ya! Now, as I wait for a response from someone, my mind starts turning over ideas for another book. I could add more to my current one – more detail to scenes, more depth to emotions. Yes, I will definitely do that and then I will tackle a new ms.

I have some ideas of doing a second book using one of the secondary characters from my current ms. What will be her backstory? Who will be the man who turns her life upside down? What if? All these questions continue to make the rounds in my mind. Soon it will be time to get these thoughts down on paper.

I also have another complete ms – one I put aside to write my current one – and it could use some work. And why not? Get it ready to send out, but a part of me says, “this was your practice novel – keep it that for a while yet”.

So here I go again…There is NaNoWriMo in November but before that is So You Think You Can Write in September and a writers conference in October. Life never gets less busy….

NaNoWriMo running total update

It’s been a slow May with my NaNoWriMo count only being 33,590/50,000. When I don’t have a set in stone deadline the desire to keep going just isn’t there.

I am close though, and my goal is to have it finished for June 1 to enter the Harlequin Blaze contest. I have to enter my first chapter and a synopsis. Guess what I’ll be doing this weekend?  🙂

My characters have fought, made up, did some soul searching, fought again and now I am at the point where something is going to happen to their relationship that they might not recover from. Oh, the things we do to our characters!

I made my word count!

April has come and gone and I am happy to say I reached my goal word count of 30,000. I still have a 20,000 word count to finish by the end of May for my grand total of 50,000.

I have to say it is a bit harder to keep the momentum going, but I am determined to get it done! Perhaps taking a week off wasn’t such a good idea….

April NaNoWriMo update #2

Well, I’m way overdue for an update on my April NaNoWriMo word count!  As I started on April 2 today is my day 30 and my goal which changed around day 15 is now 30,000.

So my total word count today is: 27,584/30,000. I am hoping to reach my goal by Friday and then I will use the rest of May to get to my grand total of 50,000.

I’m still loving my writing space. I turn my heater on and cozy up with a cup of coffee and away I go. It has been so much fun to challenge myself and doing the pre-planning the week before helped me stay on task. Some things have changed, the characters did and said things I never imagined they’d do and voila! I’m quite happy with the way things have progressed.

I will definitely do this again. If not in November then next April. Anyone else interested? 🙂

April NaNoWriMo update

Well, I’m day 11 into my April NaNoWriMo and my total word count to date is:

I’m loving my new writing space. I find I can be very creative here and I enjoy it even better when the washer and dryer are running.

Finding the time has been hard, which I knew it would be, especially since I work full-time but I’ve managed to find 1-2 hours or more every day to work on scenes. I even took two days in which I completed a detailed plot sequence. I found this a great help as it showed me where I needed to take my characters next. True, it didn’t add to my word count, but it was a very important part of the process.

I will keep everyone up-to-date on my weekly word count.

If anyone else out there decided to take this April challenge, please let me know how you are doing. It’s also a good idea to be accountable – it keeps you motivated.

Preparing for my own NaNoWriMo

I am currently preparing for my own month of NaNoWriMo this April 2013. What inspired me? The book “No Plot, No Problem” by Chris Baty. I am half way through the book and have done the necessary steps to bring me to my first week of writing and what I will encounter. One obstacle I have to spend a lot of time on is carving out my own personal writing space where I will be able to hide away from family and be undisturbed to let my creative juices flow.

So I wracked my brain… where do I put this precious space which will help carve out wonderment? Every room in the house is taken. The garage is full of “stuff” and too cold right now anyways. At the present time I have a little corner taken up in the bedroom but that is not the ideal place so it MUST be moved!

I did just finish cleaning out the furnace room over the Christmas holidays but after eye balling it a few times it just won’t work. The space is small. And where on earth will I put the stuff that is in there right now??? This space will be my space even after the 30 days of writing is over so it needs to be tolerable. It would be quite warm though. 🙂

That brought me to the next small space in the house – under the stairs. Again, full of stuff… but I haven’t gone through all the junk under there in a few years. Way overdue for a cleaning. So, just this past Monday I pulled everything out into the rumpus room (made a nice big mess to the kids dismay) and have started to go through the boxes. I got rid of a lot of Halloween decorations and downsized all Christmas and birthday wrapping paper into one awesome storage container. I still have a ways to go and still no solution to where I’m going to put everything.  The suitcases and decorations will have to go back under the stairs but I still think I will be able to make the rest of the space work for me – the rest of the boxes can join the junk in the garage until my garage spring clean! Can’t wait for that either. Lots of stuff to the dump! Yeah!!!

I will update my posts once I am on the next stage of Tricia’s writing space – furniture and decorating. It will be sooo fun!!!!
